Facts about Versailles
- Built in 1624 as a hunting lodge for Louis XII
- By 1774 it had: 2,143 windows, 67 staircases and was home to 1,000 servants.
- The palace is built around its beautiful gardens.
- The gardens cover 3 square miles.
- The sculptures in the garden get covered in the winter.
- The Treaty of Versailles was one of the many peace treaties that ended World War I.

Facts About Versailles:
- built by Louis XIV
- gardens designed by Le Notre with many fountains and statues
- The name Versailles comes from the world of the Sun Kings Court
- There's a hall of mirrors that is 250 feet long and in another time this was the room in which the Treaty of Versailles was signed. That was when WWI ended.
- The Hameau da la Reine ("Queen's Hamlet") was built in 1783 in request of Marie Antoinette
- The Queen's Hamlet was a working farm with orchards and fields that produced food for the Royal Family.
- The King's bedroom was created in 1701- it was a place for business, not sleep, though.
