The Arc de Triomphe was the biggest triumphal arc in the world when it was built. Napoleon  thought since he was so good at being an empereur, he said he deserved something. So, he had the people of France build the Arc de Triomphe. They started building the Arc de Triomphe in 1806 and it took them about 30 years to build. Many years later it was done, but Napoleon had died years before it had been finished. Napoleon had completely disintegrated. For his funeral the army had a great funeral and marched his coffin under the Arc de Triomphe.
